I have a baby brother. He's now 1 year old and 4 months. When he was 6 months old, one of the first things he learned was to count from 1-5 with his fingers! Amazing isn't it? This proves to show that we live in a Math-erial world!
When we were little, we were taught the basics of Math like counting, adding and subtracting numbers, skip counting (this topic was really fun to memorize!) and much more. Since then, I've learned to love Math!
However, I know not everyone loves Math. But who are we kidding? We can't avoid Math! It's everywhere! (Okay, sorry for over-reacting :)) ) I mean, from simple telling of time, to brain-bleeding problem-solving equations at school (which, by the way, we apply in our everyday lives), Math is inevitable. We use it from the time we wake up in the morning, to see if we're late for school or not; until the the time we get ready for bed, to count sheep when we can't manage to get our sleep! We use it at home, at work, in school, in other countries, and even in the most unusual places we could ever imagine. Honestly, if I write all the things we use Math for, I might run out of letters and my keyboard might just give up on me! You get my point :D
So all of this is a clear proof of how important Math is in our lives. So maybe, just maybe, those who hate it would somehow learn to love it. Just the way I did, when I was little. :D
I feel a little guilty on how I feel about that subject, but I'm glad you're enthusiastic about Math :) We do in fact use math for figuring out simple things in life (except for the harder parts like algorithm, etc. I don't know how or where they use it o.o)
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show you can't escape it I guess haha xD
For me Math got harder to love when I grew older and older :)) It's amazing that you never fell out of love of Math :)
ReplyDeleteAhaha.. your blog is so funny ms. Porshehizon. Well you're right from everything we see, we talk about there will always be math. But some people ignore it because they are afraid of numbers and we can't blame it is the fault of the problematic math equations. People only know the basics as long as they can use it in this MATH-erial world hahahaha! the phrase "to brain-bleeding problem-solving equations at school" I laughed hahahaha no kidding :))
ReplyDeleteI used to hate math. Probably when I was in grade 1-3 because memorizing the multiplication table is quite annoying but it's a requirement and I was feeling mental laziness for it. But around grade 4-6 I started liking math because I got higher grades and I was somehow fond of our math teachers, they're humorous. If you don't mind me sharing, my favorite math teacher was our math teacher in 2nd year high school. Hahaha okay sorry for my short biography (rather long comment) but yeah, I get the idea that math is very important to everyone's lives. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! Math is everywhere and will always be part of our life whether we like it or not :))
ReplyDeleteIt's true. I did hate math and I'm not going to deny it. But later in life I realized how much it affects our daily living. Since then I've begun to appreciate the wonders of math. I'm still learning, but hopefully someday I'd be able to grasp the passion for it. :)
ReplyDeleteWe may not notice it but we use a lot of math everyday. Thank you for sharing your childhood experiences with math, wish I had the same experiences though. I could only remember loathing speed tests, staying longer in my seat during math exams, forgetting which sign was greater than or less than. :)) Nonetheless, it's still important. It's not too late for me to see the brighter side of it, I guess. :)
ReplyDeleteMath got harder when I grew older. But we really can't deny that its really a part of our lives :) I just hope that with a lot of effort I could try to love math :D
ReplyDeleteyour blog post is funny :D
ReplyDeleteits also funny people still cant see that math is very important in our every day lives :D
Seeing it in a more positive and cheerful way, Math must not be hated just because memorization and problem solving are involved. It is a vital subject in our life as students and as human beings.
ReplyDeleteMath is all around! Connected with our everyday doing. But its really helpful in a way :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right Portia, it's true, we really can't avoid math. Thanks to our Prof, he made it so much more interesting. Looking forward to your next post! :)
